Hermés’ Kelly dates to the late 19th century when it debuted as the Haut à Courroies bag with the purpose of storing equestrian saddles. Its successor was designed by the founder’s son, Robert Dumas, and re-named in 1977 to honour Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco who used it in the film 'To Catch A Thief' before adapting it for her personal use. This 28cm golden-brown Retourne iteration is handmade by a single artisan in an 18-to-24-hour process that involves 36 pieces of Togo leather. The style is defined by its rounded edges and relaxed silhouette, which is achieved by hand-stitching the inside of the bag and then flipping it around.
